Creating a practical garden layout

This project combined several landscaping elements, with attention given to how the paved area, artificial lawn and garden boundaries would meet. The porcelain patio and steps formed the hard landscaping, while artificial grass provided a contrasting lawn surface with reduced routine maintenance.

The scope also made use of existing materials. Timber sleepers were retained for reuse along the fence, incorporating part of the original garden into the finished scheme. Alongside the new clad wall, these details helped define the edges of the outdoor space.

Groundworks and preparation

Our team arranged the plant and machinery required to excavate the designated areas and carry out the groundwork. Grab hire supported the collection and removal of excavated materials and site waste as the work progressed.

The patio and artificial grass areas each required suitable preparation for their intended finish. For the paving, this included establishing a sub-base and bedding layer, with levels planned to accommodate the patio, steps and drainage falls.

Preparing these areas before installation allowed the different surfaces to meet neatly and provided the foundations for the finished garden.

Porcelain patio and steps

Porcelain paving formed the main patio area, with steps incorporated into the installation. Our team paid attention to alignment, levels and drainage falls throughout the laying process, creating a consistent finish across the paved surfaces.

The steps were integrated with the patio so that the changes in level formed part of the overall design. Using porcelain across these elements helped maintain a coordinated appearance.

A recessed manhole cover was also installed within the paved area. This allows the cover to incorporate paving for a more discreet finish while preserving access to the inspection chamber beneath it. It is a practical detail that helps the access point sit neatly within the patio layout.

Artificial grass and reused timber sleepers

The artificial grass area was prepared with an appropriate base to create a level surface before the grass was installed. It provides a green contrast to the porcelain paving and an alternative to a lawn requiring regular mowing.

Existing timber sleepers were reinstalled along the fence line to define the garden edge. Reusing these materials formed part of the agreed scope and gave them a continued purpose within the updated space.

Together, the lawn and sleeper edging introduced a softer appearance alongside the paving and clad wall.

A clad wall and the finishing touches

The works included constructing a wall and applying external cladding to create a modern feature within the garden. The cladding added another finish to the scheme, complementing the other landscaping elements.

Once installation was complete, the remaining waste materials were removed and the working area was cleaned. The finished project brings together porcelain paving, steps, artificial grass and defined boundaries, with practical details such as the recessed cover considered throughout.
